Partner visits in Matomo, with Refficks

See the visits partners send you in Matomo, each partner on their own line, with nothing to install.

Nobody has walked these steps against a real Matomo setup yet. They are built from the provider's documentation, listed at the bottom of this page.

What it gives you

  • Partner visits in Matomo, each partner by their link code as a campaign, and as source partners and medium affiliate with the Marketing Campaigns Reporting plugin.

What it does not

  • It shows visits and what Matomo counts, not commission: what a partner is paid is decided in Refficks from their link, and never from these parameters.
  • Keep partner codes in lower case: Matomo stores campaign values in lower case, so "Dana" and "dana" would be one partner there.
  • Without the Marketing Campaigns Reporting plugin, Matomo keeps one campaign name per visit: the partner's code, not partners or affiliate.
  • With Matomo's CNIL privacy settings on, it records that a visit came from a campaign and discards the values, partner codes included.

Steps

These are the steps as they read inside Refficks. Where one says “below”, it means this guide's page in Refficks, where your own script, addresses and checks are.

  1. 1. Add campaign parameters to every partner link

    In Refficks, open Settings → Links and, under "Extra parameters on every link", add utm_source = partners, utm_medium = affiliate and utm_campaign = {code}. {code} becomes each partner's own link code, so every partner gets a line of their own.

    They are added to every partner link, existing ones included, and never decide which partner is paid. A partner's own utm_ values on their link give way to yours.

  2. 2. Find partner traffic in Matomo

    In Matomo, open Acquisition → Campaigns. Each partner's code is a campaign name of its own.

    To see partners and affiliate as source and medium too, install Matomo's free Marketing Campaigns Reporting plugin (Settings → System → Plugins → Install new plugins on your own Matomo; Matomo Cloud includes it).
