Shift4Shop affiliate tracking with Refficks

Orders are reported from your Shift4Shop thank-you page. Refunds you reverse by hand.

Nobody has walked these steps against a real Shift4Shop setup yet. They are built from the provider's documentation, listed at the bottom of this page.

What it gives you

  • Orders in your Shift4Shop store are credited to the partner whose link brought the buyer, from the thank-you page every completed order reaches.
  • Each order under Shift4Shop's own invoice number.

What it does not

  • Every order is reported by the buyer's browser, with nothing from a server to vouch for it, so its commission waits for someone to approve it, even on a plan that approves by itself.
  • Commission is worked out on the order total, tax and shipping included: Shift4Shop gives the page no figure without them that is after any discount.
  • Refunds are not reported. When you refund an order in Shift4Shop, reverse its commission by hand on the Commissions page.
  • Shift4Shop does not tell the page which currency an order is in, or who bought it, so the script says the currency and sends no buyer.
  • If your store's Content Security Policy refuses scripts from go.refficks.com, the script never loads. Ask Shift4Shop's support to allow it.
  • A buyer who has not accepted cookies on your site, whose browser sends Global Privacy Control, or who blocks scripts is not reported.
  • Shift4Shop says help with another company's script is outside its support. Where the Header & Footer settings sit comes from other services' guides, so check the menu names in your Store Manager.

Steps

These are the steps as they read inside Refficks. Where one says “below”, it means this guide's page in Refficks, where your own script, addresses and checks are.

  1. 1. Turn on orders from the browser

In Refficks, open Settings → Tracking and turn on "Accept orders from the browser". Until then an order sent from Shift4Shop's page is refused.

  2. 2. Put the Refficks script on every page

In your Shift4Shop Store Manager, open the Header & Footer settings (under Settings → Design, or Content in older stores), turn off the WYSIWYG editor, paste the snippet into the Global Footer, make sure that section is switched on, and save.

Your copy of the Refficks script, with your own key in it, is on the Integrations page in Refficks.

  3. 3. Report each order

Open Content → Titles & Content, find Checkout #4, the "Thank You for your Purchase" page, and press Actions → Edit. Turn off the WYSIWYG editor, paste this into its Footer, and press Save Changes.

Shift4Shop fills in the invoice number and total before the page is shown, and the script reports them in USD. If your store sells in another currency, change it in the script. Nothing about the buyer is sent.

The code for this step is written for your account, and is on this guide in Refficks.

  4. 4. Make a test order

Shift4Shop may serve a page from its cache for a while. If the script does not appear, clear it under Settings → General → Store Settings → Performance.

Open your store through any partner's link, copied from their page under Partners, and buy something. The checks below turn green as each part is seen.

A test order arrives as a sale with a commission waiting for approval. Check that its total matches Shift4Shop's, then reject the commission on the Commissions page.
