Squarespace Commerce affiliate tracking with Refficks
Orders are reported from your Squarespace order pages. Refunds you reverse by hand.
What it gives you
- Orders in your Squarespace store are credited to the partner whose link brought the buyer, from the page Squarespace shows after checkout.
- Physical, download and service products, gift cards, memberships and the first payment of a subscription.
What it does not
- Every order is reported by the buyer's browser, with nothing from a server to vouch for it, so its commission waits for someone to approve it, even on a plan that approves by itself.
- Commission is worked out on the grand total, tax and shipping included: it is the one total Squarespace gives the page that is after any discount.
- Refunds are not reported. When you refund an order in Squarespace, reverse its commission by hand on the Commissions page.
- Renewals of a subscription are not reported: Squarespace charges them without showing a page. Only the first payment is.
- A buyer who has not accepted cookies on your site, whose browser sends Global Privacy Control, or who blocks scripts is not reported.
- Code Injection needs the Core, Plus or Advanced plan, or a Commerce plan.
- For a currency without two decimals, like yen, the script sends Squarespace's printed grand total instead of its figure in cents. Nobody has seen how Squarespace prints that; check your first order's total.
Steps
1. Turn on orders from the browser
In Refficks, open Settings → Tracking and turn on "Accept orders from the browser". Until then an order sent from Squarespace's page is refused.
2. Put the Refficks script on your site
In Squarespace, open the Pages panel, choose Custom Code at the bottom, then Code Injection, paste it into Header and press Save. It runs on every page, the order pages included.
3. Report each order
On the same Code Injection page, paste this into both Order Confirmation Page and Order Status Page, and press Save. Squarespace shows one or the other depending on what was bought.
It reports the order with Squarespace's own order number, grand total and buyer's email, in USD. If your store sells in another currency, change it in the script.
4. Make a test order
Open your site through any partner's link, copied from their page under Partners, and buy something, logged out of Squarespace in a private window. The checks below turn green as each part is seen.
A test order arrives as a sale with a commission waiting for approval. Check that its total matches Squarespace's, then reject the commission on the Commissions page, or refund the order.
