Refficks

Teachable affiliate tracking with Refficks

Teachable reports every course payment to Refficks. Nothing it sends is signed, so each commission waits for your approval.

Nobody has walked these steps against a real Teachable setup yet. They are built from the provider's documentation, listed at the bottom of this page.

What it gives you

  • Course payments on your Teachable school (one-time purchases, and every payment of a subscription or payment plan) are recorded as sales, credited to the partner whose link brought the buyer, or whose coupon code they used.
  • A refund takes the commission back, and a cancelled subscription stops paying its partner.

What it does not

  • Teachable signs nothing it sends, so every sale is marked Unverified and its commission waits for someone to approve it, even on a plan that approves by itself.
  • A buyer is credited through their link only if the thank-you page names them, or Refficks already knows their email from your site. Each course has its own thank-you page, and each needs the code.
  • A partner's code works only if you make the same coupon in Teachable. Refficks cannot make it for you.
  • Commission is worked out on each payment less the VAT Teachable reports on it. Teachable gives its amounts in cents; for a currency without cents, such as yen, a payment is counted only when the card charge it carries says the same figure. Check your first payment's total.
  • If Teachable takes payments through your own Stripe account and that account is connected to Refficks too, the same charge is counted once, from whichever reports it first.
  • Teachable's own affiliate programme is not read. If you run both, a sale can earn a commission in each; use one of them.

Steps

These are the steps as they read inside Refficks. Where one says “below”, it means this guide's page in Refficks, where your own script, addresses and checks are.

  1. 1. Connect Teachable

Press Connect below to get your address. In Teachable, open Settings → Webhooks and press New Webhook. Paste the address, choose the events New transaction, Transaction refunded and Subscription canceled, and save.

Only those three. New sale reports the same payments again, and is kept but not counted. Teachable offers webhooks on its paid plans; if Settings has no Webhooks, your plan does not include them.

The connection is made on this guide in Refficks, once you have an account.

  2. 2. Put the Refficks script on your school

In Teachable, open Site → Code Snippets, paste the snippet into Head Code, and save.

If your partners' links go to your own website first, put the snippet there too: when a visitor clicks through to your Teachable school, the script adds who they are to the link.

Your copy of the Refficks script, with your own key in it, is on the Integrations page in Refficks.

  3. 3. Name the buyer on each course's thank-you page

In Teachable, open Courses, choose a course, open Pages and edit its Thank You page. Add a Liquid/HTML block (Custom HTML in the newer page editor, which Teachable's support switches on for paid schools), paste the code below, and save. Do this for every course you sell.

It tells Refficks the buyer's email, which Teachable puts in place of {{ sale.user.email }}. Refficks then credits the payment Teachable sends to the partner whose link that browser followed. The code waits for the Refficks script from your Head Code; if your first test purchase is not credited, paste the Refficks script above it in the same block.

The code for this step is written for your account, and is on this guide in Refficks.

  4. 4. If your school has its own address

A school on Teachable's own addresses, like your-school.teachable.com, needs nothing more. If yours is on a domain of your own, like learn.your-company.com, add it below so links to it from your website hand the visitor on too.

Your checkout's own address is added on this guide in Refficks, once you have an account.

  5. 5. Make a test purchase

Open your school through any partner's link, copied from their page under Partners, buy a course, and reach the thank-you page. Teachable has no test mode for webhooks, and sends nothing for a free course or a 100%-off coupon, so the test has to be paid.

It arrives below as a sale waiting for approval, credited to that partner. Reject it on the Commissions page, and refund it in Teachable: the refund reaches Refficks too.
