Refficks

Thinkific affiliate tracking with Refficks

Thinkific sends every course payment to Refficks, signed with your webhook's signing secret.

Nobody has walked these steps against a real Thinkific setup yet. They are built from the provider's documentation, listed at the bottom of this page.

What it gives you

  • Course payments on your Thinkific site (one-time purchases, and every payment of a subscription or payment plan) are credited to the partner whose link brought the buyer, or whose coupon code they used.
  • On Thinkific Payments, a refund takes the commission back, and a cancelled subscription stops paying its partner.
  • Thinkific signs every delivery, so a commission can approve itself on a plan that does.

What it does not

  • Thinkific sends refunds and cancellations only for Thinkific Payments. A refund through Stripe or PayPal connected to Thinkific is not reported: reverse its commission by hand on the Commissions page.
  • A buyer is credited through their link only if the thank-you page names them, or Refficks already knows their email from your site. Thinkific does not run the Order Tracking Code for free courses.
  • A partner's code works only if you make the same coupon in Thinkific (Marketing → Coupons). Refficks cannot make it for you.
  • Commission is worked out on each payment less its tax. Thinkific prints its amounts without saying their unit; Refficks reads them in each currency's smallest unit, as Thinkific's API does. Check your first payment's total.
  • If Thinkific takes payments through your own Stripe account and that account is connected to Refficks too, a subscription payment can be reported by both. Connect one of them for these sales.
  • Thinkific's own affiliate programme and its referral codes are not read. If you run both, a sale can earn a commission in each; use one of them.
  • Your site must offer webhooks with a signing secret, which Thinkific is still rolling out to every site.

Steps

These are the steps as they read inside Refficks. Where one says “below”, it means this guide's page in Refficks, where your own script, addresses and checks are.

  1. 1. Connect Thinkific

Press Connect below to get your address. In Thinkific, open Settings → Code & analytics → Webhooks and press New webhook. Paste the address as the Target URL, choose the model Transactions and the topic Succeeded, press Generate beside Signing secret, copy the secret, and save.

Make two more webhooks the same way, pasting the same secret into each: Transactions → Refunded, and Subscriptions → Cancelled. Then paste the secret below and save: until it is saved, every delivery is refused.

Only those three. Order created reports the same payments again, and is kept but not counted. If your site offers no Signing secret yet, it cannot be connected: Thinkific's other kind of webhook is signed with your site's API key, which Refficks does not take.

The connection is made on this guide in Refficks, once you have an account.

  2. 2. Put the Refficks script on your site

In Thinkific, open Settings → Code & analytics, paste the snippet into Site Footer Code, and save.

If your partners' links go to your own website first, put the snippet there too: when a visitor clicks through to your Thinkific site, the script adds who they are to the link.

Your copy of the Refficks script, with your own key in it, is on the Integrations page in Refficks.

  3. 3. Name the buyer on the thank-you page

In Thinkific, open Settings → Code & analytics → Order Tracking Code. Paste the Refficks script from the step above, then the code below it, and save. Thinkific does not run your Site Footer Code on its checkout pages, so the script goes here too.

It tells Refficks the buyer's email, which Thinkific puts in place of {{ billing_email }}. Refficks then credits the payment Thinkific sends to the partner whose link that browser followed.

The code for this step is written for your account, and is on this guide in Refficks.

  4. 4. If your Thinkific site has its own address

A site on Thinkific's own addresses, like your-school.thinkific.com, needs nothing more. If yours is on a domain of your own, like learn.your-company.com, add it below so links to it from your website hand the visitor on too.

Your checkout's own address is added on this guide in Refficks, once you have an account.

  5. 5. Make a test purchase

In Thinkific's webhook list, press the three dots beside the Succeeded webhook and send a test event. It arrives as a test: it shows Thinkific reaches Refficks, and records no sale and no commission.

To see a partner credited, open your site through any partner's link, copied from their page under Partners, buy a course, and reach the thank-you page; then refund it, and the refund takes the commission back.
